Black Timber Apothecary

Buckshot & Gunpowder

How to brew it

One scoop of leaf gives up two full-flavored infusions — a bold first brew and a sweeter, smoother second. Good at the start of the day and at the end of it.

Add the pepper. A pinch of cracked black peppercorn helps your body absorb the turmeric in this blend, which is why a pack of it comes in the box.

Loose leaf — best flavor

The richest, smoothest cup.

  1. 1–1½ teaspoons of loose blend into an infuser bottle or metal mesh infuser.
  2. Pour hot water (190–200°F) over the herbs.
  3. Steep 7–12 minutes — or leave the infuser in the bottle while you sip. The flavor intensifies toward the bottom.
  4. Add 3–4 cracked peppercorns with the herbs — up to 6 for a warmer, more adventurous cup.
  5. Sweeten with honey if you like. A splash of cream makes it rich, almost dessert-like.

The included teabags

A clean, convenient brew. Twenty drawstring bags come in the box.

  1. Fill one bag with 1–2 teaspoons of the blend.
  2. Add 3–6 cracked peppercorns to the bag, or float them loose.
  3. Steep 8–12 minutes in hot water.
  4. Remove the bag and drink.

When the bags run out, any drawstring bag or basket infuser works.

Iced — exceptional clarity

  1. 2 teaspoons of blend into 12 oz of cold water, in an infuser or a bag.
  2. Add 3–4 cracked peppercorns with the herbs.
  3. Refrigerate 4–6 hours, or overnight for a stronger extraction.
  4. Strain and drink cold — or sweeten lightly with honey while warm, then chill.

Yields a crystal-clear, bourbon-colored iced tea with warm spice notes.

Sun tea — traditional

  1. 2 teaspoons of blend per 12–16 oz of water in a clear jar.
  2. Add 3–5 cracked peppercorns.
  3. Let it sit in direct sun for 3–5 hours.
  4. Refrigerate after brewing.

Produces a smooth, mellow cup with a rounded herbal sweetness.

Keep it fresh

Reseal the pouch after each use. Store it cool, dry, and out of direct sun.
